From Chantelle Rytter: "....A sincerely joyful and creepy celebration in Little Five Points. You know L5P has fun dead people! All are welcome to represent the dead in skeleton make-up, mask, or skellie puppets, and follow the Krewe of the Grateful Glutton’s giant skeleton puppets in sidewalk parade with Wasted Potential Brass Band. The Parade of the Dead delivers flowers to the altars on the route: Little Vinyl Lounge, Elmyr, and the Yacht Club. Drop a note to your dead along the way. 7pm, November 1, Findley Plaza."
The Little Five Points Halloween Festival and Parade wouldn’t be complete without its iconic “Skellie” puppets, which have been a beloved part of the event since 2000. They come to life even more at night when they are lit up for the All Souls Altars + Parade of the Dead every year on November 1. These towering skeletal creations add a playful yet reverent tone to our celebration, reminding us of the importance of honoring our dead as a community.
From the beginning, Chantelle Rytter—celebrated for her magical Lantern Parades across the South—has been a cherished collaborator, bringing her creativity and community spirit to Little 5 Points. Together, the glowing lanterns, towering puppets, and whimsical artistry create a vibrant and meaningful way for Little Five Points to remember those who came before us while celebrating the living.
This laid-back event, nestled in the heart of our offbeat neighborhood, is more than just a parade; it’s a heartfelt tradition that unites us in light, remembrance, and creativity.
